Conversations About Jesus
Please email us if you’d like your own copy of Bible Gems.
Hi friends,
We’re not sure how more than 4 months have passed since our last update! So much is happening that we often feel like we’re just trying to keep up with God’s goodness all around us. Read on...
From John’s heart:
Hey there! Since the last update, I’ve continued working on the slides at church, which recently got a nice redesign. We also had the opportunity to give BIBLE GEMS books to one of my friends and his mom for his birthday. I am almost 30 hours into my flight training and only have 570 days until I can get my private pilot’s license!
Pastor Dave’s note: What is a BIBLE GEMS book? Our family has learned from 4+ years on the mission field here in New England that very few people we meet have ANY sort of Biblical background. When we share the Gospel, we find ourselves explaining over & over that Jesus Christ is our Creator, our Savior, & our Judge. As you can guess, it takes time to do this in detail beyond an initial conversation & an expression on the hearer’s part to want to know more. So, we’ve come up with a long-term strategy to reach as many souls as possible, as efficiently as possible, & with the greatest impact possible.
The BIBLE GEMS book pictured below is the 1st of 3 planned devotional studies that showcase how the Gospel reveals Jesus as the Creator of Genesis, Jesus as the Risen Savior worshipped by us—the New Testament Church, & Jesus as the Judge of Revelation 14:6-7. We insert the church invitation cards in the books we give out & it’s not just the Scott family, either, but also our church family at Middleton Gospel Chapel in New Hampshire, all freely giving these away as Jesus describes in Matthew 10:8—inviting the receiver into a deeper friendship with Jesus & us. These books aren’t for sale. We only give them away!
If you’d like one, just send us a note with your mailing address & we’ll send one to you!
From Shannon’s heart:
I am so thankful for the Lord’s work in my life, and I’m thankful for the tools He uses to accomplish that work - His Word, His Spirit, prayer, my husband, Titus 2 older women, friends, and life circumstances. I am currently leading a Women’s Bible study based on the book The Bookends of the Christian Life by Jerry Bridges. (By the way, if you’re looking for a good summer read, I highly recommend this one!).
There is something so special about sitting around a table with like-minded women, each with her own Spiritual gifts and life experience, reading and studying God’s Word together and sharing how He is teaching and shaping us.
Over the course of the study we have been memorizing and meditating on Colossians 2:6-7 - “Therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
Each week we explore a different key word, and this week we are focusing on what it means to be “built up in Him,” a theme that runs deep and wide through Scripture.
It’s so exciting to see the Lord building His church in Middleton, NH, in the surrounding communities, and beyond our boundaries. Growth is hard and sometimes painful because of His pruning and chastening, but the result is beautiful in His time! I’m looking forward to new discipleship and outreach opportunities with Teatime Discipleship and LEGO Club events.
Pastor Dave’s note: Our 1st Sunday here, there were fewer than 20 souls present. Just 10 days ago, on Easter Sunday, we worshipped with 41 voices praising God! Shannon’s Bible study for women this past Tuesday had 19 attending in the morning & 7 in the evening!! The women of our church bring their friends & many have been introduced to our church that way, including the woman who sent us the note below. They split into morning & evening groups because they outgrew the space available! Below is a screenshot of a recent Facebook post made by one of the women Shannon has been discipling for more than 3 years now.
A note sent to us from a woman who recently began attending our church with her family:
“The topic of what The Great Commission is has been on my family’s heart lately. God is blessing your church because you teach The Great Commission, individually and collectively as the church. Many churches just write checks to various missions, which is wonderful, but each one of us, individually, is called for this wonderful Commission. God will bless those churches that are preaching and doing what the Word says. We have a large mission field right in our own backyard!”
Pastor Dave’s note: She’s RIGHT! There’s just over 1.4 million souls living in New Hampshire & when you find where we live on the chart below, you’ll see that 91% of those 1.4 million souls (just short of 1.3 million) attend worship/church gatherings less than once a month & that 73% of the people we live among - OVER A MILLION - don’t attend ANY church EVER. New England is literally the darkest spiritual corner of our country. You can learn more about God’s work through our family here at ScottFamilyJourmey.org & we ask that, before you close this email, please PRAY 2 Thessalonians 3:1 over His work here, “that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified...” Thank you, dear saints! As is always the case with Jesus Christ, the BEST is still to come! Amen?!
